The Commissioner for Education in Osun State, Mr Wasiu Omotunde Young has said that the education sector in the state witnessed huge improvement under the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola with 284% improvement in West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).
Addressing a press conference at the Governor’s Office in Osogbo, the state capital, the commissioner for education said the purposeful intervention of Aregbesola’s administration made the improvement possible.
According to him, “in the Education Sector, the State has achieved 284% improvement in the performance of students in WASSCE from 15.68% in 2010 to 44.47% in 2017 examinations.”
“As at November, 2010, the situation in the Education Sector of Osun was; marked with poor infrastructure across the State, non availability of adequate instructional materials; low morale of teachers, roughly dressed and malnourished pupils, poor monitoring and evaluation; low quality and dysfunctional Basic and Senior Secondary Education.”
He noted that the terrible situation resulted to very poor performance of students in internal and external examinations. He said the governor has changed the situation and that Osun Students are now performing excellently in their examinations.
His words “The modern, state-of-the-art world class infrastructure built by Aregbesola for the Elementary; Middle and High Schools have been applauded and commended; by all commentators including even his detractors, as bold; unprecedented efforts to move education in Osun from darkness to light.”
He noted that current situation in the education sector in Osun is; a pointer to a better future given the foundation laid by Aregbesola.
