Asup gives Bida poly four- week ultimatum to pay N72M allowances minna-members of the academic staff union of polyechnics [ASUP] .
The Federal polytechnic Bida chapter habe given the institution management four weeks to pay their N72million outstanding allowances of face industrial strike action.
Dr .Umar saganuwan branch chairman, disclosed this interview on the lingering face-off between school management and his members stuning that they will commence strike after the expiration of the ultimatum by first week of April.
The Minister of education,Alhaji Adamu, AsupPresident Mr.Usman Dutse and the minister of labour and employment Dr. christ Ngige, jointly signed the letter for the payment, Umar explained adding that having waited for sometimes and management appeared not ready to comply with directive hence the strike became inevitable.
The said letter directed that the management of Polytechnics should pay all the allowances and also that backbog of appears should be paid in good time., but the rector only invited us for an impromtu meeting to state the management position on the legality or otherwise of some of the allowances being demanded.
The chairman, who gave details of he monies being demanded by Asup to include, Hazard academic allowance peculiar and excess work allowances, said the union would on the industrial strike by the 31 march if the money was not paid on or before then.
We are giving the school till the last day of march to pay us or we will shut down this school indefintely , Umar said adding that ASUP would not accept execuses that the polytechnis could not generate N1billion before they could be paid.
Federal government asked us to use part of school fees to settle the arrears but we need to use our discretion to strike balance so that the system does not collapse.
