The Academic staff union of Polytechnics Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic chapter has given a seven day ultimatum to the Bauchi state government to address the issue of salary cuts or its members will embark on a strike.
This was; contained in a communique issued at the end of an emergency meeting held by the union over the issue.
According to the communique signed by the polytechnic’s ASUP chairman,comrade Bala Mohammed Yakubu stated that members of the union has sacrifice a lot due to the economic downturn in the country.
Now that the country gets out of recession; and the federal government gave a time frame for the implementation of new minimum wage. The union never postulate a deduction in salary from the government but; rather an increments through the implementation of lower cadre migration and other allowances that are; not fully implementation of lower cadre migration and other allowances that are; not fully implemented as done in other tertiary institutional of learning, it stated.
The union therefore stated that it wanted to remind the state head of civil service that polytechnics salaries structure is statutory in nature which became a national policy.
According to the union, states must also comply with the policy as; stipulated in the National Board for Technical Education scheme of service/guidelines as; approved by the previous administration.
