The Consul General of the Peoples Republic of China in Nigeria, Ambassador Chao Xiaoliang, has restated his country’s commitment to supporting local education in Nigeria; saying that the amity between the two countries holds the key to state to state progressions.
Xiaoliang said this during the hand -over ceremony of class rooms’ rehabilitation projects, as well as other items to St. Patrick’s Catholic Nursery and Primary School, Idumagbo in Lagos.
According to him, supporting the local development of education; remains the Chinese Community’s first choice in giving back to the local people as part of corporate social responsibility; and fostering better diplomatic ties between Nigeria and China.
Today, after more than half a year of hard work, the project is; finally completed and children do not need to worry about the rainy season any more. There will be neither leaking of the classroom nor the dirty water pouring into the campus from the street during bad weather.
The new classroom is equipped with new facilities, the children will have better conditions to concentrate on studying and the teachers can devote more on teaching”, Xiaoliang stated, adding that, “We wish that with the improvement of conditions, St. Patrick’s Catholic primary school would strive to cultivate more outstanding students with moral integrity, sound academic capability, high caliber, with sharp minds and bright eyes focused on the bright future, not only for themselves, but also for the nation and the world .”
The CG who also recalled the fifth ministerial conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where his government gave its submission to carry out a programme called ‘China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action’, which is aimed at encouraging and supporting exchanges and cooperation between non-governmental organisations, women and young people of the two sides, said, “We have implemented 21 projects since the beginning of the Actions, such as donation of a borehole system to Lagos University and Nnamdi Azikewe University, donation of medical equipment to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, donation to a welfare house, and rehabilitation projects of some primary and secondary schools in Lagos. In addition, tens of thousands Nigerians have also benefited directly from the projects.”
However, the occasion was; graced by Lagos Island Government Education Authority Secretary, Moshood Mayegun; Executive Chairman, Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Oluremi Shopeyin, Chairman, Lagos Island West Government, Adetoyese Tijani, including, Hon. Chairman, Charity Foundation of Overseas Chinese Service Association, Mr.Cheng Guang with his Vice, Mr. Eric Ni , Head teacher, St.Patrick Catholic School, Ms. Alhaja .A.Ikassim, among others.
