Governor Ben Ayade of cross River State has promised to ease the burden of parents and guardians to ease the burden of parents and graduates struggling to pay the school fees of their children and awards by awarding scholarship to about 1,000 students in the state.
The governor, who made the pledge at a reception organised in his honour by stakeholders in the cross river north senatorial district, also announced \the creation of 3,000 new jobs for indigenes of the region.
Ayade made the pledges at the Ogaja township stadium in Ogoja after the stalk holders urged him to seek re-election for a second term as governor int he forthcoming 2019 election.
Stressing that the modalities for scholarship had already been worked out, he said the decision to assist the students was driven by a need to stem the tide of withdrawals from institutions due to the inability of parents and guardians to pay fees.
He said, at least 1,000 students will placed on scholarship with immediate effect. this gesture will discourage young people from withdrawal from school as education is badrock to the development of any society.
