Authorities of Delta State University, Delsu, on Thursday expelled twenty-four students and suspended twenty-six others for misconduct and alleged forgery.
The Vice-Chancellor of Delta State University, Delsu, Prof.Victor Peretemode, who confirmed this on Thursday, said,in continuation of the campaign to restore discipline to academics, the students were ”axed” for misconduct and alleged forgery of their school certificates.
Peretemode explained that some of the affected students, who formed a larger number, were; handed down suspension of between two to six semesters; and would resume at the expiration of the sanctions while; the twenty-four students expelled from the university were; indicted for misconduct and certificate forgery.
He further confirmed that many of the affected students were departmental presidents of Mass Communication, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, Business Administration, Geography and Regional Planning Departments.
But some of the affected students on the anonymity, claimed that they were; being; victimized by the University Management, insisting that they were; innocent, while few others admitted they were; guilty and appealed to the management to reascend the decision.
Investigations, however, revealed that the recent development in Delta State University, Delsu, has raised serious reaction as some of the students kicked against the university’s decision to expel twenty-four students, many of whom were faculty presidents; a situation that had also raised serious tension and fear of the unknown.
One of the expelled students, Alex Eruogbo, two hundred level students of Geography and Regional Planning, however appealed to the management and the state Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to intervain as he was ready to turn a new leaf.
