An interest group, BacktoLight Foundation, has called for effective drug education in schools with; a view to teaching children and parents on the dangers of drug abuse.
The call was; made by the Programme Officer, Tega Omogor, during a drug abuse awareness walk on Saturday in Abuja. She said the awareness walk was a prelude to intense campaign against drug abuse in schools.
“We shall begin to go to schools and continuously educate children on the dangers of drug eduaction abuse which has; become a prevalent problem in schools. It is now time to curb the use of illicit drugs by children because government alone cannot address the drug abuse.”

CLICK HERE TO KNOW MORE She said peer pressure could be the cause of drug abuse in schools and that if every parent should educate their children on drugs, it will be easier to effectively control drug abuse.
According to her, drug use education should also; be infused into the school curriculum to encourage behavioral change especially among students saying, “We are gradually losing the next generation to drug overdose.” She said the trend towards legalizing marijuana for; medical purposes sends wrong signals to those who are most vulnerable to its effect including school kids.
