Students in the University of Uyo have expressed satisfaction over the conduct of Governor Emmanuel Udom’s Tuition Intervention Programme which took place weekend, at the Town Campus of the University.
The programme which was; organized by the Special Assistant to Governor Emmanuel on Students Matters, Comr. Otobong Aquilla, popularly known as “Aquilla”, was; aimed at preventing students from suspending studies, amidst closure of portal by the Management.
The students who specifically extolled Governor Emmanuel’s gesture; for assisting Nigerian students who could not complete their tuition, also thanked Comr. Aquilla Otobong Akpan for her kind leadership qualities and for making students feel the impact of government.
They also stressed that the road to 2019 is very smooth for Governor Emmanuel with the gesture to students; calling on the general public to discard any information on extortion by the Governor’s Aide; during the Fee intervention program.
Speaking with one of the beneficiaries from Faculty of Arts who pleaded anonymity, it was learn that the exercise went smoothly, despite few hitches at the inception of the exercise, due to the number of students that rushed to benefit from the programme.
He however revealed that normalcy was restored, through the efforts of Mobile Police Officers and Man O’ War, saying, the exercise was done orderly without undue treatment to students.
On the issues of paying additional N2,000 outside before entrance to the venue, our sources who were; beneficiaries of the programme revealed that impatient students bent on passing through the back doors; bribed some miscreants at the venue to disrupt the cue to their favour.
“I was permitted into the venue without paying any amount to any body at the entrance. The only money that came out of my pocket was the #10,000 which we needed to pay before the
counterpart fund. Those who came late went and bribed some miscreants outside to disrupt the programme.
“However, I appreciate Governor Udom Emmanuel for interceding to assist students despite the hash economic situation in the country. I thank Comr. Otobong Aquilla for being sincere to Nigerian students” A beneficiary from Communication Arts Department said.
However, another student has frown at the attempt by mischief makers who took upon themselves to blackmail the efforts of Comr. Otobong Aquilla in helping Nigerian students by circulating misguided information in the social media…
