The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Prof. Kolawole Salako, has said the recent developments in the university have given strong indications that the institution is capable of feeding the whole country.
Salako said this while delivering his speech at the 26th FUNAAB convocation on Thursday.
He said the school had obtained a certificate of registration from the National Centre for Generic Resources and Biotechnology to boost indigenous breed of chicken called FUNAAB Alpha.
The VC said, “ Our cattle production venture, which started about eight years ago, cannot be more relevant than now, when there is a need to solve the national crisis emanating from herdsmen and farmers in Nigeria.
“Between 2017 and April 2018, we rebuilt our cassava processing factory, expanding its capacity to process not just cassava, but other root and tuber crop into high quality flour.”
Salako said the university decided to honour Prof Wole Soyinka and a Professor of History at the University of Texas,USA, as part of the effort to appreciate their contributions to the development of education in the country.
A total of 3,548 students graduated from the university.
