Competition Details
Once you’ve registered for the contest, you’ll gain access to our Judge System. The Judge System is our online platform where you’ll form your team, join a Hub, practice, and compete during the rounds.
During the Online Qualifications, you’ll watch our YouTube livestream to be introduced to the problem, and your team will have four hours to solve an optimization problem using the programming language and tools of your choice.
Teams can also compete alongside other teams in your area by joining a virtual Hub. The top teams from the Online Qualifications will be invited to the virtual World Finals, where they’ll work together to solve another challenge and compete for cash prizes.
Virtual Hubs
For the Online Qualifications, your team can participate from anywhere using your own computer and internet connection.
To make this round even more exciting, you can participate with a virtual Hub. Virtuals Hubs are linked to offices, universities, and cities around the world so that teams can compete side-by-side.

If you decide to join a virtual Hub, you will get access to a scoreboard just for your virtual Hub to see how your team ranks compared to your peers and friends.
Participating from a virtual Hub is a great way to meet new people! Hubs may look a little different this year, but your safety continues to be our top priority. We hope to resume in-person Hubs in 2022.
Participants must form their team in the Judge System (as defined below) and the team composition cannot be changed after the deadline specified on the HC Contest website or Judge System.
A participant may leave a Team and withdraw from the HC Contest prior to such deadline. However, your Team must have at least two (2) members throughout the duration of the HC Contest (including the World Finals (as defined below)).
Any team with fewer than two (2) members is not eligible to participate in the HC Contest. Each participant can only participate on one (1) Team during the HC Contest.
Only Team members who are at least eighteen (18) years old or the age of majority in their country of residence (whichever is greater) (“Age of Majority”) at the time of registration for the HC Contest are eligible to participate in the World Finals.
In order for a Team to participate in the World Finals, at least two (2) Team members must meet the minimum age requirement.
Contest Structure
Due to COVID-19, 2021 Hubs will be fully virtual. The HC Contest consists of two (2) rounds: the qualification round (the “Online Qualifications”) and the final round (the “World Finals”).
