Job Description
Overview of the Role
As a Sr. Process Engineer your role is to assist in the leadership and management of staff within the process team on major projects. Reporting to the Director of Energy you will be an integral part of SDE’s Energy division while also supporting other business divisions and stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will need to have a passion for people management while also being technically skilled and able to effectively manage and execute on multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
We are open to working remotely for the right candidate however some travel may be required based on the needs of projects and clients.
Responsibilities
Involved on all technical aspects of process engineering work, such as development of process design criteria, preparation of engineering calculations, analyses, and studies, development of process simulations, PFD’s and P&ID’s, HAZOP attendance/input, equipment sizing and specifications, and report writing.
Review and confirm process deliverables are complete, technically accurate, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
Develop and produce hours estimates, staffing plans, discipline level schedules, calculate earned value, calculate process progress, produce weekly and monthly reports on the status, forecast of the work.
Manage process engineers on major projects, controlling quality of the project deliverables while staying within budget.
Manage and troubleshoot the assignment of hours to subordinates; communicate effectively with Project Management and engineering discipline to ensure that process deliverables can be achieved through the assigned hours.
Provide mentoring and development for junior and intermediate engineers.
Understand and implement all relevant systems, standards, practices, and procedures.
Travel to project sites, on a short-term basis, as required.
Maintain health, safety, and environmental focus to ensure that these elements are embedded in the design.
Qualifications
Experience with one or more of the following areas/technologies: green hydrogen, carbon capture, renewable natural gas, renewable liquid fuels, biofuel. Highlight the related qualifications on your resume
Experience and know-how associated with process/technology scaleup from lab to pilot/demonstration to commercial scale. Clearly identify this experience on your resume
10-15 years of relevant technical and managerial experience
Bachelor’s degree in applicable field from a recognized institution
Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada with a preference for a PE designation in the US
Skilled in developing process simulations (AspenPlus, HYSYS, etc.) and using industry standard hydraulic assessment tools. Experience with dynamic simulations an asset
Ability to Work with teams across North America and Asia effectively
Preference for bilingual (English/French)
Excellent grasp of engineering principles and experience assessing complex process systems
Experience delivering major projects (at least to 200MM TIC)
Ability to travel to customer sites and all SDE Regional Offices
