According to an internal memo seen; by TUKO.co.ke, the Vice Chancellor of Kenyatta university said that the closure had been; prompted by the nationwide lecturer’s strike and heightened student agitation.

According to prior TUKO.co.ke reports, students set ablaze several buildings at the main campus on Thursday night, November 16, following student riots.
Several anti-riot police officers were; deployed to the institution to attempt to restore calm. Several students were; injured.

Apparently, unrest at the Thika Road campus begun after student leaders were elected.
Claims went round that the students complained about the school becoming a money making machine when there was; no learning taking place at the institution.

According to a student who spoke to TUKO.co.ke on condition of anonymity, every student was; given a letter telling them to prepare to submit a fee to pay for damaged property whether; or not they were involved in the fracas.
