The opposition parties in Edo have been making attempt to lure the state’s embattled governor ahead of the guber election – PDP has welcomed the possibility of Governor Godwin Obaseki joining it following his disqualification by the ruling party APC .
The opposition party, however, said the Obaseki may not contest in its primary unless its national leadership gives him a waiver
With Godwin Obaseki losing the first battle in his bid to take the control of the soul of Edo state for another four-year term, there is an indication that the governor may pitch his tent with another party ahead of state guber election.

Source: UGC Kola Ologbondiyan, the national spokesperson the party, gave the Edo governor the hope, but in what suggested the contrary way, Tony Aziegbemi, the chairman of PDP in Edo state, ruled out the possibility. Speaking on a radio programme “The Weekend Show’ on Africa Independent Television on Saturday, June 13, Aziegbemi said the governor is not the member of the party and may not contest under it.
“As we speak, His Excellency Governor Godwin Obaseki has not joined the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,” the Edo state chapter of PDP said. He also explained that should the governor decide to defect to the opposition party, he may not be able to contest in ins primary unless the national working committee of PDP grants him a waiver.
