Chairman of the academic staff union of universities, university of Ibadan branch, DR Deji omele has described the ongoing strike by the non-academic staff union of universities (NASU) over earned academic allowances(EAA) as a misdirected aggression because the money released by the federal government as essentially for Assu and not any other unions.
The federal government has released N1.6billion to the Asuu and 105million to the non-academic staff. The wide disparity was kicked against thus triggering off the ongoing strike which had run into a month.
The strike has disrupted academic activities in the university of ibadan and continue when the students resume in January in preparation for their second semester examinations.
Making clarification on the contentious issue with journalists in ibadan yesterday; ‘the much touted earned allowance in the fact, earned academic allowance. It is meant for the academic staff only. It takes care of the post- graduate supervision, teaching practice supervision, among others.
Even there disparity in the distribution o the money the Asuu members depending on some factors; while a retired professor might earn N 200, 000 a junior staff could earn up N1.2million.
