Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday urged new Vice Chancellor; of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State; Prof Felix Salako, to be; a team player in administering the institution. Obasanjo, who spoke at the inauguration of Salako as the sixth substantive; vice chancellor, said there was no reason for the new helmsman; not to perform judging by his track records.
The university’s Pro- Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Dr Aboki Zhawa; former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Julius Okojie; pioneer vice chancellor of FUNAAB, Prof Nimbe Adedipe and the immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof Ololade Enikuomehin, among other dignitaries from the academia, religious bodies and community groups attended the event.
In his remarks, Obasanjo expressed satisfaction with the appointment of the new VC and commended the Governing Council for doing the job with “utmost diligence.”
Apparently speaking against the backdrop of the crisis that rocked the a few months ago, the former president charged Salako to run the university’s affairs with the fear of God. Obasanjo said: “I know there must have been pressure on you (Governing Council). Even me, an outsider, there was pressure on me. But I did not succumb to pressure.
“I did not even succumb to pressure to tell you what people were telling me. And I am happy that you did your job with utmost diligence and the fear of God. Chairman, may God continue to guide and direct you. “Prof Salako, the VC now, I congratulate you.
I congratulate this; university for having you at the helms of affairs at this point in time. God will do the job for you as God helped you through the Council to be; appointed.
