Niger state commissioner of Police, Mr Austin Agbonlahor has said that the command would soon establish a Police-Students Forum to fight crime and other social vices in the state.
A statement by Mrs Lydia Legbo, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Federal University of Technology (FUT) iN Minna on Saturday said the commissioner announced this during a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Akanji.
He solicited the support of the institution in the fight against criminal activities in the state.
He explained that the purpose of the visit was; to familiarize with the University community and requested for collaboration in critical areas that were germane to national development. ”We see the University community as; a critical stakeholder in terms of national development and security and as such, we cannot do without partnering with you,” the CP said.
The Vice Chancellor expressed appreciation for the support of the Police and added that; the university management had enjoyed robust relationship with previous commissioners of police in the state. He expressed hope that such cordial relationship would continue under the new leadership.
Akanji commended the police for accepting to establish a post in the Gidan Kwano community, saying that the outpost had contributed tremendously in the fight against crime within the community. He said that the proposed forum when established would reduce crime rate to the barest minimum in the university community.
” Here in FUT Minna, we have a student population of 22,000 but; we can only provide accommodation for 3,000 students on campus. So, most of our students reside in Bosso and Gidan Kwano communities,” he said. (NAN)
