STUDENTS ARE ADVISED AGAINST POWER BANKS

Students of Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State, and others across the country have been warned on the dangers associated with power banks, as many of them are of low quality and can easily explode.

Engr. Shehu Yakubu, a lecturer in the Electrical Engineering Department, gave this warning in an interview. According to him, the quality of the battery is vital for the overall functions of the gadget.

He observed that most companies use cheaper lithium ion batteries to reduce cost, adding that, some companies also use recycleD batteries, which make them to sell at a much cheaper price than those with standard batteries.

The don explained that inefficient circuit design is another aspect that can cause explosion. Yakubu advised users, especially students, not to allow their power bank to run down; since it could result to bursting, adding that when charging their communication gadgets with power banks; it should be; kept far away from human body, as it can cause explosion due to heat radiating.
