University of Uyo, uniuyo wins Silver at 2019 STSE PetroQuiz, set to represent Nigeria in Canada.
University of Uyo picked up Silver at the 2019 PetroQuiz Competition held yesterday at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The competition was; part of activities for the 17th Students Technical Symposium and Exhibition (STSE) organized by the Society for Petroleum Engineers (SPE) for Petroleum Engineering students across the country.
Uniuyo wins and, the team also qualified for the 2019 World PetroBowl Championship scheduled for September in Calgary, Canada.
The event was; held between 21st and 23rd March 2019 and had over 25 higher institutions in participation.
The University of Uyo team was represented by Edet Antigha, Samuel David, Imaobong Tom, Emmanuel Dominic and Samuel Ekokota.
The University of Uyo team decimated Niger Delta University (42 – 0), trounced Petroleum Training Institute (41 – 32) in the Quarter-final, Federal University of Petroleum Resources (52 – 50) in the Semi-final, before bowing to the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) in the final.
FUTO and UNIUYO wins and will proceed to represent Nigeria at the 2019 World PetroQuiz Tourney in Canada, .
The University of Uyo has so far won qualifications for the World PetroBowl Tourney for a record 3 times, but has never appeared – due to inability to obtain visas among other issues.
We hope the University Management and relevant authorities will wade into the situation this time, to motivate our champions.
